Disappearing Act

The Commons Project, Commons Gallery, New York, NY

In this performance piece, one twin sits on a stool in front of a white wall while the other twin paints over her with white paint, attempting to make her disappear. However, you can still see her figure among the white wall, representing the “we” in our relationship; no matter what, the other can never be separated from the self and our identity will always be shared. In previous pieces, we discuss the various influences that we as twins have on the viewer, exploiting a number of different cultural paradoxes and tendencies. In this piece however, we focus more on the effect that being twins has on ourselves, forcing the viewer to think about what it would be like to have a twin.
